By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

Azerbaijani mobile operator Azercell Telecom LLC is preparing to subsidize sales of Apple smartphones for its network subscribers, the company's CEO Chiril Gaburici told Trend on July 16.

He said talks are currently underway with partners on the possibility of implementing this project.

The project will be implemented by analogy with the ongoing 'Free Smartphone' campaign, which offers a Huawei Y330 smartphone to the Azercell Telecom subscribers.

Gaburici previously said Azercell Telecom is ready to cooperate with partners who have interesting proposals.

The smartphone sales subsidizing is actively used in the U.S. and Europe, where the operator sells the phone cheaper than its cost, while connecting the subscriber to a long term contract (usually one or two years).

This provides a guaranteed use of communication services for a subscriber fee.

The prices of subsidized iPhone smartphones in the U.S. (with a two-year contract with the mobile operator) is $199, $299 and $399 - depending on the device configuration.
