The market of telecommunication services which are rendered on the basis of technologies of broadband and high-speed internet access is actively growing, Executive Director of the Azerbaijani Cable Operators Association Ali Aliyev said in an interview with Trend.
"Of course, the access to the internet remains the basic service,” Aliyev said. “There is the growing trend of popularity of not only unlimited tariff plans, but also higher speeds.”
“So, the speed of 1 Mbit / s was the most popular speed in 2019, now the speed is 10 Mbit / s, and the speed of 100 Mbit / s will be more popular soon,” executive director said. “It is also important that hundreds of subscribers were using speed of over 10 Mbit / s in 2015, but now several tens of thousands of subscribers use this speed.”
“IPTV is the second most popular service in the consumer basket based on broadband access,” Aliyev said. “The growing interest is stipulated by the evolution of technologies. The traditional ADSL, based on a copper infrastructure, is being replaced by the "optical" ETTH (Ethernet To The Home, that is, internet to the home) and FTTx (fiber to the x, that is, optical fiber to the X).”
“The beginning of the commercial operation of a broadband access network based on GPON technology (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) may be considered as the key event in 2019 for the districts,” executive director said. “The introduction of the latest technology entails the changes in consumer behavior, as well as the changes in terms of price, quality and range of opportunities."
“If one talks about fixed technologies, FTTH (Fiber to the Home), which envisages targeted delivery of internet access to a consumer’s apartment, can be considered as the most promising technology,” executive director said. “FTTB (Fiber to the Building) will be the main technology for delivering fixed internet to a consumer soon.”
