Funding of 'Digital Kazakhstan' program significantly increases

A total of 32.6 billion tenge ($80.7 million) will be allocated from Kazakhstan’s state budget for implementation of the Digital Kazakhstan State Program, a representative of Kazakhstan’s Zerde National ICT Holding told Trend.

Zerde National ICT Holding is dealing with implementation of a 'Digital Kazakhstan' State Program in the country. The main goal of the program - improvement of Kazakhstan's economy competitiveness and quality of life through the progressive development of the digital ecosystem.

The Zerde representative said that implementation of the program is carried out in four key areas: digitization of economy branches, transition to the digital state, implementation of the Digital Silk Way, evolution of the human capital assets, and innovative ecosystem formation.

The representative said the a total of 108 billion tenge ($267.3 million) are to be allocated from Kazakhstan’s budget, in addition to funds of backbone enterprises, local executive bodies and international financial organizations.

“The amount of funding is updated annually for each activity of the program, depending on the current stage of implementation. For example, over 20 billion tenge ($49.5 million) and over 15 billion tenge ($37.1 million) were allocated from the country’s budget alone in 2018 and 2019, respectively,” the representative said.

In turn, a total of 32.6 billion tenge ($80.7 million) are to be allocated from the state budget for the program’s implementation this year. Thus, this is nearly as much as allocated in 2018 and 2019 joint together.

“In addition to the means of the state budget for digitalization of economic sectors and large cities (Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Karaganda, Shymkent and Aktobe), own funds of system-forming enterprises and funds of local executive bodies will also be provided,” the Zerde official said.
