BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17

By Sadraddin Aghjayev – Trend:

Cyber threats against Azerbaijan are mostly DDoS attacks, as external connectivity is tightly tied to the national telecom operator (Delta Telecom), Alexander Lyamin, Founder and CEO of the Russian Qrator Labs company, told Trend.

According to Lyamin, DDoS attacks on the largest telecom operator can lead to the loss of global network accessibility of almost the entire region.

The CEO said that the proliferation of IoT devices along with the development of 5G networks and the introduction of IPv6 is also the main driver of the development of the threat of DDoS attacks.

"By exploiting vulnerabilities in IoT devices, hackers create giant fleets of infected devices to carry out large-scale attacks. These threats are as relevant for Azerbaijan as they are for the whole world. However, due to centralized connectivity, the country is more exposed to IoT risks than other states. region, excluding Iran. In Iran, the internet provider market is much less diversified and is less stable and resilient in relation to internal and external risks," Lyamin said.

He emphasized that this class of threats, first of all, can be aimed at the financial industry, followed by the e-commerce industry, the industrial sector, and in some cases information resources can also enter the TOP of the most attacked industries.

According to Lyamin, phishing, DDoS attacks and hacks have firmly established themselves in the TOP 3 of the main cyber threats in recent years.
