Computer Piracy in Azerbaijan is up to 80%

Abutalib Samadov, the head of the Copyrights Agency, said on November 1, that presently, the level of computer piracy in the country is up to 80%, while in the CIS the figure is 89%.

A special action plan was organized on November 1, 2006 jointly with Microsoft Azerbaijan, on a workshop of Computer piracy and its impact on Azerbaijani economy.

The head of the Agency explained the spread of pirate products due to the gap in Azerbaijani legislation. First of all it is necessary to make changes and supplements to the relevant legislation.

Samadov also noted that the Agency is working over a new bill on copyrights, which is to be applied next year. Moreover, it is also planned to launch a state program, Copyrights in 2007-2010.
