Significant increases in influx of tourists from Central Asia to Azerbaijan recorded

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. Azerbaijan was visited by 53,210 tourists from Central Asian countries from January through June 2023, which is 2.22 times higher than the figure for the same period in 2022 (23,937), Trend reports.

According to the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan, the number of tourists from Kazakhstan totaled 21,394 (increased by 87.06 percent year-on-year), Uzbekistan 16,645 (increased up to 3.08 times year-on-year), Turkmenistan 11,259 (up by 3.87 times year-on-year), Kyrgyzstan 2,208 (an increase over the year by 83.54 percent), and Tajikistan 1,704 (increased by 2.54 times over the year).

Meanwhile, a total of 411,141 people visited Azerbaijan from Central Asian countries (from Kazakhstan: 167,052, Turkmenistan: 119,201, Uzbekistan: 96,278, Kyrgyzstan: 15,467, and Tajikistan: 13,143) from 2017 through 2022.

In total, 1.602.600 foreign citizens visited Azerbaijan in 2022, which is more than double the figure of 2021 (790,062), while from Central Asia, some 73,823 people traveled to Azerbaijan, which is 4.75 times higher year-on-year (15,516 people in 2021).
