Kazakhstan’s Air Astana will possibly have to reconsider plans for airplanes fleet renewal, the company’s representative told Trend.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and introduction of coronavirus-related restrictions in the country, Air Astana voiced its plans to work on purchasing new planes to renew company’s operational fleet.

Last year the fleet of Air Astana company was expanded by four Airbus A320/321neo planes, including А321LR and four Embraer 190-Е2 planes. The company planned that its fleet would include 42 planes in 2020.

Managing Director on Logistics and International Cooperation of Kazakhstan’s Samruk-Kazyna JSC Kanat Alpysbayev said earlier this year that aircrafts renewal of Air Astana company was postponed and was planned for the period after the flights are resumed.

The company official said that Air Astana’s anti-crisis plan includes truncated operation of the fleet at the initial stage.

“Company’s attention will be focused on the main local and international business routes, which will create a cash flow. In the short term, we may have to delay some of the previously planned deliveries within the aircrafts renewal plans,” the official said.

Air Astana is the flag carrier of the Republic of Kazakhstan, based in Almaty. It operates scheduled, domestic and international services on 64 routes from its main hub, Almaty International Airport, and from its secondary hub, Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport.
