Azerbaijan's total 10M2020 cargo traffic shrinks

The volume of cargo transportation by all types of vehicles in Azerbaijan amounted to 155.5 million tons from January through October 2020, Trend reports citing data from the Azerbaijani State Statistical Committee.

As reported, the decrease in cargo transportation in annual terms was 18.8 percent.

A significant share of the total volume of cargo transportation (59.1 percent) fell on road transport, which amounted to 87.2 million tons (a decrease of 30.6 percent).

Pipelines accounted for 29.8 percent of cargo turnover. The volume of oil transportation amounted to 29.28 million tons. The volume of gas transported amounted to 9.8 billion cubic meters of gas.

The share of sea transport accounted for 3.1 percent of cargo turnover, and their volume amounted to over 4.9 million tons (a growth of 0.9 percent). The oil sector accounted for 32.4 percent of all maritime shipping.

Railway transport accounted for 7.7 percent of all traffic, in the amount of 12 million tons. The decline in cargo traffic by this type of transport compared to last year's indicator for the same period amounted to 3.9 percent, and in passenger traffic – 38.4 percent.

Air transportation accounted for 0.2 percent of all cargo transportation in the country. Some 358,000 tons of cargo were transported by air, which is 2.2 times higher than the indicators of the same period last year.

During the reporting period, the foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan made up $21 billion, which is 25.7 percent less compared to the same period of 2019.

In the structure of foreign trade turnover, exports accounted for $12.2 billion. The volume of exports declined by 27.3 percent on an annual basis. The share of exports decreased by 1.24 percentage points over the year, to 58.25 percent of the total foreign trade turnover.
