Iran and Turkmenistan are increasing transportation cooperation following the 16th Iran Turkmenistan Joint Economic Commission, the head of Iran Road Maintenance & Transportation Organization told Trend in an interview.
There have been good talks in the joint commission about transportation and economic cooperation between the two countries, Darius Amani noted.
Iran Minister of Road and Urban Development and his Turkmen counterpart discussed the cooperation between two sides in the International North-South Transportation Corridor. Turkmenistan, Iran, Uzbekistan, and Oman are expecting to implement the cooperation agreement that was previously signed in Ashgabat.
Inche Boron, Lotfabad, and Sarakhs border terminals are resuming their previous position before the coronavirus outbreak where the transportation fleet could transport.
Two countries are also expected to use the capacities in their ports, especially Turkmenistan that would use the capacity of Iran's southern ports including Chabahar to connect to open waters while Iran will use Turkmenbashi ports for access to the Baltic Sea and Russia.
Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development has suggested Turkmenistan would join the Chabahr development agreement between Iran, India, and Afghanistan.
Turkmenistan will use Iran's northern ports that have 30 million tons capacity and the southern ports with 230 million tons capacity. The two countries agreed to create a line between Anzali port in Iran and Turkmenbashi port in Turkmenistan while Amirabad port capacity will also be used in this route.
It is agreed that two sides would draft protocols for vaccination of Iranian truck drivers for their cargo transportation of and the Turkmen side is to announce its decision.
