Iran eyes to increase cargo transit with Russia

TEHRAN, Iran, May 7. Iran can expand transit cooperation with Russia, said a transportation expert Mohammad Javad Shahjoei, Trend reports citing Tasnim News Agency.

"Russia's view towards transit cooperation with Iran has changed and the country needs a transit route," he said.

He went on to say that launching scheduled freight trains via the International North-South Transportation Corridor would increase cargo transit from Russia.

Shahjoei pointed out that increasing transit cooperation with Russia requires the development of infrastructures.

The Iranian Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Qassemi has recently visited Moscow stressing increasing transit cooperation with Russia.

The minister has indicated, Rasht – Astara Railway is the shortest route for transit cooperation between the two countries, Chabahar and Shahid Rajaei ports in southern Iran would also increase transit.
