BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 22. Cargo transit through customs of Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province in the north-east of the country increased by 21.7 percent, during the first two months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through May 21, 2022), compared to the same period in the last year, Supervisor of Razavi Khorasan Province Customs Office Javad Jafari said, Trend reports.
“Within 2 months, a total of 336,000 tons of cargo were transited through the customs of the province, while the figure stood at 276,000 tons in the same period of last Iranian year,” he added.
Jafari noted that a number of steps are being taken to increase transit through the province's customs.
Thus, work is underway to make at least one of the customs in Razavi Khorasan Province on the border with Turkmenistan open 24 hours a day, the official said.
“In addition, necessary steps are being taken to establish a customs office on the Khaf railway line, which is located on the border with Afghanistan, as well as, continuous meetings are held with the province's international transport officials on simplification and acceleration of transit,” he also pointed out.
According to him, at the same time, work is being done in Lotfabad customs related to launch of the new customs office on the railway line.
In general, there are 5 customs in Razavi Khorasan Province of Iran: Dogharoon, Lotfabad, Bajgiran, Sarakhs and Mashhad. The province has a 531 km long common border with Turkmenistan and 302 km long with Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, cargo transit through Iran’s roads amounted to 790,000 tons in the 1st month of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 20, 2023), which is a decrease of 10 percent compared to the same month in the last year. Also, transit through Iranian railway was 136,000 tons for the 1st month.
