BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 25. Imam Khomeini port in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan handled 3 percent more cargo in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 to February 19, 2024) than in the same period last year, Director General of Ports and Maritime Department of Khuzestan Province Aboutalib Geraylu said, Trend reports.
Geraylu said that a total of 42.5 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at the Imam Khomeini port in 11 months.
He added that the main products handled by the port were crude oil and petroleum products, and mining and chemical products. So, the port handled more than 18.5 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products, and 9 million tons of mining and chemical products, which were 21 percent and 18 percent higher than the same period last year, respectively.
The director general also said that the port exported about 20 million tons of products in 11 months, which was an 8 percent increase from the same period last year.
Iran's Imam Khomeini Port is located on an area of 11,000 hectares. This port can receive 54.5 million tons of cargo per year.
