BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 16. Mehrdad Khosravi, an official from Iran's Ministry of Industry, Mining, and Trade, disclosed that the production of various types of cars in Iran reached 1.34 million units during the current Iranian year, spanning from March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024, Trend reports.
Khosravi specified that within this period, 1.13 million passenger cars were manufactured in Iran, reflecting a 6% increase compared to the previous year (March 21, 2022 - March 20, 2023).
Furthermore, the official highlighted that the production of pickup trucks surged by 32% compared to the preceding year, with 166,000 units manufactured during the stated timeframe.
Additionally, Khosravi noted that 40,000 various types of cars including vans, minibuses, and trucks were produced in Iran during the mentioned period, representing a 2% increase compared to the previous year.
Moreover, he pointed out that private companies contributed significantly to car production, manufacturing 307,000 cars during the current year, marking a remarkable 58% increase from the previous year.
In recent years, Iran has prioritized domestic production of passenger cars over imports, resulting in restrictions on car imports. However, due to challenges such as insufficient domestic production, low quality, and safety concerns, these restrictions on importing passenger cars have been partially eased.
