BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 9. More than 6,400 TEU (20-foot containers) were transported from Kazakhstan along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) from January through March 2024, which is 85 percent more than the figure of the first quarter of 2023, the data of Kazakhstan's Railways said, Trend reports.
These containers followed the TITR through the port of Aktau, which, in total, in the first quarter of 2024 transshipped 7,400 containers of 20 feet (33 percent more than in the first quarter of 2023).
The idea of establishing a multimodal TITR appeared 10 years ago, and cargo transportation through it has been growing for the last few years.
To note, 2.76 million tons of freight passed through the TITR in 2023 (an 86 percent increase over 2022). Around 4.2 million tons of cargo are forecast to be transported in 2024.
