Turkish company "Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S." has received large contracts in Turkmenistan for the construction of two gas turbine power plants, the report of the Ministry of Energy and Industry of Turkmenistan said.

According to the report, an appropriate decree was signed by the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity to the consumers in the country and the implementation of the Concept of development of electric power industry of Turkmenistan for 2013-2020.

Electric power corporation Turkmenenergo will sign the agreement on the Turkmen side. Here the matter rests in designing and building a 252.2 megawatts gas turbine, leading external systems and facilities of communication, electricity, gas and water supply in Ak Bugdai etrap (region) of the Ahal velayat (province).

The document enacted to begin the construction works in July 2013 and commission the completed object in December 2014.

The second contract implies the design and construction of a 504.4 megawatts turbine power station, leading external systems and facilities of communication, electricity, gas and water supply, railway and highway in Derweze district of Ahal velayat. In this case, the construction works are also planned to start in July 2013, and commissioning is expected in December 2015.

At present, the capacity of all power plants of Turkmenistan's power is 4104 MW, including 1,643 MW, or 40 percent that is produced by modern gas turbine generators.

Furher increase of generating capacity in Turkmenistan will take place not only through the construction of new gas turbines, but also on the basis of the upgrade of existing steam turbines that will greatly enhance their effectiveness.

In accordance with the industry development strategy the level of electricity production in Turkmenistan will reach 35.5 billion kilowatt/hour by 2030.

In order to achieve this goal during the mentioned period it is planned to build three gas turbine power plants of combined cycle, with total capacity of 1122 megawatts. The construction of high voltage transmission lines (power lines) and substations that will reduce electricity losses during transportation will also be continued.

In the perspective the energy system of the country will be fully covered with the 500 kilovolts high voltage overhead power lines, and it is planned to build a 500-kilovolt of Balkanabad-Ashgabat-Mary high-voltage line by 2020. This will allow mutual backup of eastern and western parts of Turkmenistan.
