Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman David Wootton will visit Kazakhstan from Tuesday June 26 to June 30, UK Embassy in Astana told Trend.
"The purpose of the Lord Mayor's visit is to promote the City of London as the world's leading International Financial Centre as well as promoting UK Financial and Business Services and to assist in the development of greater trade and investment between the two countries and to promote English Law within the region," UK Embassy said in its statement.
"In Almaty, the Lord Mayor will focus on sharing experience and expertise with Almaty in its aim to become a Regional Financial Centre during a roundtable. He will also promote the expertise and experience of the City of London in the context of Kazakhstan's forthcoming People's IPO programme and the floating of shares in several national companies," the statement says.
According to the statement the Lord Mayor will then travel to Astana, focussing on UK work with Kazakhstan in the Education and Training Sector and supporting development of the special economic zone.
"Lord Mayor will open the new BG Centre for Energy and Research at Nazarbayev University," the statement says.
He will also emphasise the benefits of the UK rule of law, and good corporate governance in terms of establishing and sustaining a strong investment and business climate at a roundtable lead by His Excellency Deputy Prime Minister, Kairat Kelimbetov.
The Lord Mayor will make several calls on important government officials, including the Astana City Akim, Imangali Tasmagambetov, Chairman of Samruk Kazyna, Umirzak Shukeyev and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
The Lord Mayor's main role is to represent, support and promote the businesses and the people of the City of London. As head of the Corporation of the City of London, the Lord Mayor is the key spokesman for London, is apolitical and also has important ceremonial and social responsibilities. The Lord Mayor is also the Chancellor of City University London.
