Kazakh-Chinese Joint Commission on the use and protection of transboundary rivers discussed topical issues of joint transboundary water consumption between the two countries, including the implementation of the Plan of the major directions of technical work on water allocation in transboundary rivers at the 9th meeting of the Working Group of Experts, which was held in Beijing from July 3 to 6.
The Commission also discussed the assessment of water resources in Irtysh, Ili and Emel river basins, the use of water resources of Ulken Ulasty border river, reconstruction of water intake facility on the Sumbe River, construction of joint hydroelectric complex on the Khorgos River, Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan said.
A delegation of Kazakhstan was headed by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Water Resources of the Agriculture Ministry Ondasyn Zhienkulov, while the Chinese delegation was headed by Director of Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design General Institute of Water Resources Ministry, Liu Weiping.
