Vladislav Chelakh, suspended of killing 15 people at the frontier at Arkankergen in Kazakhstan, says that the post was attacked, the Republican KTK TV channel said on Friday.
"He said their border post was attacked. Soldier Aganas told him about it. Then frightened, they fled from the scene, after which shots were heard. He hid somewhere at the base of the mountain. After a while he returned and found the dead frontier guards," Chelakh's lawyer Tolegen Berlikozhanov said.
Earlier Chelakh refused to confess to the murder of 14 fellow soldiers and hunter. This fact was officially confirmed by the country's chief military prosecutor. The lawyers also reported that a psychiatric examination found Chelakh sane.
Relatives of the dead guards are arriving to Usharal from eight regions of Kazakhstan. They will meet with the leadership of the unit and with the investigative team of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In addition, a dinner and the unveiling of a memorial to the soldiers are planned at military unit 2484, where the soldiers were serving. It is also planned to take the relatives to the scene of the tragedy - the post at Arkankergen. Relatives of Vladislav Chelakh won't come to the meeting. According to his grandfather, investigators said their presence is undesirable.
According to some relatives of the dead soldiers, they were confused by the news about the Vladislav Chelakh's refusal to confess and intend posing lots of questions to investigators.
