In 2017 there will be new types of transport in Astana. This was reported on Thursday by Astana Akim, Imangali Tasmagambetov during a meeting with the city's residents.
"Some essential changes are expected in the area of public transport. The so-called BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system will be introduced and also the metro bus, a rapid bus connection by specially allocated traffic lines. This will allow the transportation of a large number of passengers and to improve the traffic flow in general. Its length will be 48 km,"Tasmagambetov told.
He said that from the international airport in the direction of the EXPO exhibition location it is planned to initiate a system of light, rail street cars with an extension of the line to the new railway station, 21 km long. The convenience of the route will be provided by a range of administrative and cultural buildings and socially important regions where the majority of hotels are located.
"At the same time with the aim of expanding the number of flights to the Kazakhstan capital, the ministry of transport and communications and joint-stock company Astana International Airport JSC, will carry out the work on opening up new international flights by foreign airlines,"Akim said.
In 2011, Astana International Airport JSC had 15 325 inbound and outbound flights serving 2.3 million passengers, while the maximum passenger carrying capacity during the rush hours was 750 passengers per hour.
"By 2017 it is planned to increase the number of flights to 20 000 and to increase the number of passengers to five million per year," Imangali Tasmagambetov said.
