Unemployment rate exceeded five percent in Kazakhstan in July

8.6 million people were employed in the economy of Kazakhstan in July 2013, the Statistics Agency of Kazakhstan said on Monday.

According to the agency, the figure has increased by 56,400, or 0.7 percent compared to the same period last year. The number of employees during the period was 5.9 million (69.1 percent of total employment).

The number of unemployed in July 2013 was estimated at 467,900 people, while the unemployment rate - at 5.2 percent. 58,200 people were registered officially by the employment authorities of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan by late July 2013 (excluding those covered by the "Employment Road Map 2020"). The proportion of registered unemployed amounted to 0.6 percent of the economically active population (0.7 percent in July 2012).

It is estimated that in June 2013 the level of hidden unemployment rate was at 0.4 percent of the economically active population.

The unemployed (according to ILO standards) is a person with no gainful employment (workplace), actively seeking it and ready to start working.

Hidden unemployment (involuntary part-time employment) shows how many workers are employed on the reduced working week or part-time basis and on unpaid administrative leave or partial payment of labor.

The level of hidden unemployment is the share of partially employed and workers on forced leave in the economically active population measured in percentage.
