Kazakhstan discusses creation of CES single energy market

Kazakhstan, Astana , October 10 /Trend D.Mukhtarov /

There is a need for adopting a common energy policy in the countries located throughout the territory of the Common Economic Space (CES), President of the Association of Financial and Industrial Groups of Russia Oleg Soskovets said in Astana on Wednesday.

"Today, it was found that the price of electricity in the three CES states is incompatible. In order to talk today about integration and a common policy, the government should adopt recommendations on this account because without this integration will not take place. We removed the customs and, simplified trade procedures.

"Why for example is the price of electricity high, in Belarus? The reason is because energy sources are expensive. So, first of all we need to settle the price issue," Oleg Soskovets said at a conference on the prospects for future energy in terms of regional integration in the framework of the VIII KAZENERGY Eurasian Forum.

In his opinion, to create a single CES energy market, we can use the accumulated experience of other organisations.

Vice - Minister of Economy and Budget Planning of Kazakhstan Marat Kusainov also said that without solving the conceptual issues, it will be difficult for the parties to discuss the terms of creating a single energy market.

"The issue of a single energy market is only being discussed and there are many conceptual issues that should be addressed. Now a corresponding concept is being developed," Kusainov said.

The Eurasian Economic Commission is preparing a programme to establish a single CES energy market which should be ready by January 1, 2015.
