Kazakhstan will launch three new high-speed passenger trains by the end of 2014

By Elena Kosolapova - Trend: Kazakhstan will launch three new high-speed passenger trains by the end of 2014, National Company Passenger Transportation reported on Sept. 9.

"Two high-speed passenger trains have been launched in summer: on Astana-Shymkent destination since June 2, and on Almaty-Aktobe route from August 1. Until the end of this year, we will launch three more high-speed trains on routes Astana- Kyzylorda, Astana-Ust-Kamenogorsk and Almaty-Ust-Kamenogorsk," the company said.

The high-speed train services are in great demand in Kazakhstan, according to the company. So, passenger traffic by such trains increased by 76,000 people to 298,000 people in the summer of 2014 (June-August) compared to the same period of 2013.

Passenger Transportation company transported 13.6 million people in first eight months of 2014. In summer period the company transported 5.9 million people (43 percent increase compared to the same period of 2013).

The company's trains ran on 122 routes in summer period.
