Trade turnover between Kazakhstan’s Aktobe region and South Korea increased by more than 20 percent in 2021, Trend reports referring to the regional administration.

The issue, as well as bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, and others, were discussed at the meeting of the region’s governor Ondasyn Urazalin with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of South Korea Ku Hong-Sok.

Urazalin presented the economic potential of the region, emphasizing that South Korea and Aktobe region have great potential in developing cooperation.

"This meeting is another step towards rapprochement and expansion of mutual interests. It will contribute to the development of the untapped potential of cooperation. Aktobe region is favorably located in terms of transport and logistics, and has rich resources,” he said. “We also welcome the appearance of modern technologies in our region. In order to ensure further economic development and attract investment, it’s planned to create a special industrial zone.”

“I suggest you consider the possibility of implementing investment projects in this zone. The implementation of new joint projects will contribute to the achievement of the goals set by the heads of our states," the governor noted.

Hong-Sok also stressed the interest in the further development of bilateral relations.

"Cooperation between our countries is constantly developing. In 2021, 60 percent of Korean imports to Central Asian countries accounted for Kazakhstan. Meanwhile, 99 percent of the total exports from Central Asia are goods from Kazakhstan. We are interested in further increasing mutually beneficial cooperation," the ambassador said.

Currently, 10 companies with the participation of Korean capital are operating in the Aktobe region.
