Kazakhstan allocates funds to improve water supply in major city

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 9. Kazakhstan will allocate 8.6 billion tenge ($18.3 million) to finalize the construction of a water intake on the Kargaly River in June 2023 and further construction of a water intake on the Aksai River, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

According to Erbolat Dosayev, head of Almaty city, the goal of the project is to improve drinking water supply, especially in the western part of the city.

Akim added that an additional 4.4 billion Kazakh tenge ($9.3 million) will be spent to complete the construction of sewage system, while 3.2 billion Kazakh tenge ($6.8 million) were allotted for the construction of engineering networks.

Currently, about 200,000 people in Almaty do not have permanent access to the central water supply.
