BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Kazakhstan increased coal production to 113.9 million tons last year, which is 1.9 percent more compared to 2021 production levels, Trend reports, citing Kazakh media.

Some 11.03 million tons of gas was reported ready for population's commercial use. Energy companies received 64.4 million tons, as well as 5.97 million tons of coal was provided to various industrial enterprises.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan exported around 32.5 million tons of coal in 2022.

Earlier reports indicated that the exports of Kazakh coal to Poland increased tenfold due to the increased demand of Poland against the backdrop of sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia. Additionally, Latvia and Estonia have also increased Kazakh coal imports in 2022.

In order to avoid a shortage of solid fuel during the heating season, coal export limitation by road transportation for the duration of the heating season starting from 30 September 2022 was imposed. The export ban will remain in force for a period of six months.
