ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 10. Kazakhstan plans to expand the international highway between Western Europe and Western China, Trend reports.
The head of the executive power of the Kyzylorda region, Nurlybek Nalibayev, informed the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev about this.
"The section of the international highway Western Europe-Western China from the city of Kyzylorda to the border of the Aktobe region (566 km) is planned to be transferred to category I with four-lane traffic," he said.
As he noted, the development of the corresponding design and estimate documentation will begin next year.
In turn, Tokayev noted that the existing road is very narrow, so work on its expansion should begin immediately.
The President of Kazakhstan instructed First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar to take control of the issue.
Western Europe-Western China: transport corridor (highway) from Northern Europe to Western China; a transnational infrastructure project designed to strengthen economic and cultural ties between Europe and Asia.
In general, the length of the highway is 8,445 km in the version to St. Petersburg (Russia). The length of the part of the road passing through Kazakhstan is 2,787 km.
