ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 18. Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas JSC (KMG, a national company) and China National Chemical Engineering Co. Ltd. (CNCEC) plan to build a gas turbine power plant at the Atyrau Oil Refinery, the KMG told Trend.
This plan was discussed by the Chairman of the Board of KMG, Magzum Mirzagaliyev, with the Regional Director of CNCEC, Zhiyuan Lu, during a visit to Beijing.
"We and our partners from CNCEC have generally reached mutual understanding on the implementation of the gas turbine power plant project, including the stages of design, construction, and financing of the facility. It is very important that excess electricity be planned to be directed to the needs of the population of the Atyrau region," Mirzagaliyev said.
In turn, Zhiyuan Lu noted that CNCEC confirms its commitment to the joint project with KMG.
"We are currently discussing with our Kazakh counterparts the optimal options for its implementation on mutually beneficial terms," he said.
The power of the gas turbine power plant will be 154 MWh. By the end of this year, it is planned to identify a partner for the implementation of the project as well as enter into an agreement with a potential investor.
Previously, CNCEC acted as an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) contractor during the construction of the Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries Inc. LLP plant in Atyrau.
