ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 24. Kazakhstan's Almaty Airport is ready to switch to the use of JET A-1 jet fuel from the second quarter of 2024, Trend reports.
This was stated during a meeting between Minister Marat Karabayev and representatives of airports and airlines.
According to representatives of the Almaty airport, the company continues to modernize the fuel and refueling complex and by June 2024 plans to completely switch to the use of aviation fuel produced according to the global standard ASTM D1655 (JET A-1).
In turn, PTC Holding, one of the country's leading operators and rolling stock owners, indicated that domestic railway capacity allows for the monthly shipment of up to 50,000 tons of JET A-1 jet fuel.
As previously stated, domestic refinery capacity does not meet the country's aviation fuel needs, hence Kazakhstan imports up to 300,000 tons from Russia each year. The Ministry of Transport is working on diversifying imports of JET A-1 brand aviation fuel from China and other adjacent nations in this regard.
On October 13, Kazakhstani airline Air Astana and PetroChina International Kazakhstan (engaged in wholesale supplies of petroleum products) signed a Memorandum of Strategic Partnership.
As part of the document, the parties intend to cooperate on the supply of jet fuel, as well as to work on creating infrastructure and transition to the international aviation fuel standard Jet A-1.
