ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 29. Over 1 billion transactions using payment cards were made in Kazakhstan in October 2023, Trend reports.
Concurrently, the total volume of transactions made 15.2 trillion tenge (about $33.1 billion).
According to data from Kazakhstan's National Bank, the number of non-cash transactions climbed by 27.2 percent to 1.03 billion, while the volume increased by 33.2 percent to 13.1 trillion tenge (approximately $28.5 billion).
Furthermore, cardholders made 20.7 million withdrawals totaling 2 trillion tenge (about $4.35 billion). There is a 1.5 percent decline in the number of cash withdrawal transactions compared to October 2022, but a 13.5 percent increase in the volume of transactions.
The main share of non-cash transactions in Kazakhstan was made through Internet/mobile banking (81.5 percent of the total number of transactions and 91.3 percent of the total volume of non-cash payments and money transfers) and POS terminals (18.4 percent and 8.4 percent of the total number and volume of non-cash payments and money transfers).
Cash dispensing transactions were mainly carried out through ATMs (98.5 percent and 89.6 percent of the total number and volume of cash dispensing transactions).
There are 73.5 million payment cards in circulation in Kazakhstan as of November 1, 2023. The most common are debit cards, whose share is 80.7 percent, and credit cards, whose share is 16.6 percent. The share of debit cards with a credit limit and prepaid cards accounted for 2.7 percent.
