ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 8. A number of large projects are being implemented in the Kazakhstan's Shymkent city to develop transport infrastructure, said the head of the city Gabit Syzdykbekov, Trend reports.

Thus, the reconstruction of the A-2 highway, the construction of the Southern and Eastern bypasses, and the continuation of Kunayev Avenue, connecting the Tashkent-Almaty-Turkestan routes with the city center, are underway.

In addition, repair work is planned on 232 km of roads in 2023. Also, from January through October this year, 210 km of roads were put into operation. As a result, the share of quality roads in the city reached 71 percent.

As the head of the city said, in 2024 it is planned to increase funding for road maintenance by 10 times.

According to him, due to this, the problem of dirt roads, which has existed for many years, will be solved. In addition, to regulate traffic flow in the city, traffic lights at 150 intersections will be connected to modern intelligent transportation system.

Reconstruction and repairs covered 10,700 km of roads in Kazakhstan in 2023. In particular, traffic has already been opened partially on some roads that have been in development for 5 years or so. These are the sections of Karaganda - Almaty, Taldykorgan - Ust-Kamenogorsk, Atyrau - Astrakhan, Merke - Burylbaytal. Their full completion is planned for 2024, with a total of 856 km of roads put into operation in 2023.

In general, in the coming years it is planned to reconstruct major highways with a length of 4,700 km (13 priority projects), as well as repair the main regional roads for 4,300 km.

From January through October 2023, the volume of transit transportation by rail increased by 19 percent to 22.5 million tons of cargo, by road transport by 17 percent to 3.4 million tons.
