ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 17. The volume of export transportation by rail from Kazakhstan to China amounted to 3.2 million tons from January through March 2024, Trend reports.
According to Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, the national
corporation), this statistic exceeds the figure for the same period
in 2023 by 21.1 percent.
Export cargo was routed via two border checks. Thus, 2.2 million
tons were transferred by train from Kazakhstan to China via the
Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing, representing a 12.3 percent
rise, and 1 million tons via Altynkol-Khorgos, representing a 44.4
percent increase.
Furthermore, exports of metal ores climbed by 5.8 percent, grain by
27.8 percent, ferrous metals by 2.3 times, petroleum products by 12
times, chemical cargo by 88.3 percent, and non-ferrous metals by
59.5 percent.
Meanwhile, in the first quarter of 2024, 1,848 "China-Europe (Central Asia)" trains passed through Altynkol-Khorgos. This is 15 trains, or 0.8 percent more than in the same period last year.
At the same time, during the above period, 1,809 trains "China-Europe (Central Asia)" passed through the Dostyk-Alashankou checkpoint. And this, in turn, is 218 trains, or 13.7 percent more than the same period in 2023.
Furthermore, the volume of freight transported by rail between
Kazakhstan and China will approach 28 million tons in 2023. The
volume of cargo transportation grew by 22 percent compared to
2022.
Kazakhstan shipped 12.6 million tons of products to China via rail,
35 percent more than in 2022.
