ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 1. The volume of e-commerce in Kazakhstan amounted to 2.44 trillion tenge (about $5.46 billion) in 2023, Trend reports.
Data from the country's Bureau of National Statistics shows that e-commerce accounted for 12.7 percent of total retail trade, including marketplaces.
Thus, the turnover of enterprises through the marketplace platforms amounted to 1.76 trillion tenge, or about $3.94 billion (72.4 percent), and retail enterprises with their own Internet resource amounted to 672.2 billion tenge, or about $1.5 billion (27.6 percent).
At the same time, the share of enterprises using marketplace platforms in 2023 amounted to 79.7 percent, selling goods and services through their own Internet resource—30.3 percent, of which 10 percent carried out retail e-commerce (through the marketplace and their own Internet resource).
In addition, phones and gadgets occupy the largest share of goods sold on marketplaces - 27.5 percent, followed by household appliances - 11.6 percent, computer products and software - 10.1 percent, and auto products - 7.9 percent.
The largest share in the volume of services provided through marketplaces is accounted for by services for booking seats on transport – 38 percent, services for transporting passengers – 37.4 percent, other services not included in other groups – 14.5 percent.
Moreover, almost half of the goods (49.9 percent) were delivered to the buyer using regular mail or other delivery methods; 31.5 percent used self-pickup; and the remaining 18.6 percent were delivered online by downloading from a website or using an app.
