ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 17. Kazakhstan's Aktau Sea Trade Port achieved a milestone in May 2024 by handling over 5,100 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) containers, setting a new monthly record for container throughput, Trend reports.
According to the Kazakhstan Railways National Company, the port has experienced significant growth in container shipments, particularly along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) from China to European countries, which has doubled in volume.
It was noted that many shippers have redirected their cargo via TITR due to its advantages in delivery speed and security, highlighting its high potential in today's logistics landscape.
Vadim Novikov, the chief dispatcher of the sea port, emphasized the port's readiness to handle high volumes of container transshipment in August this year. To facilitate this, the port will introduce modern and powerful handling equipment such as reach stackers and a portal crane with a lifting capacity of 65 tons, designed for both general and bulk cargo handling.
Overall, the port has handled more than 15,800 TEU containers in the first five months of this year, marking a 50 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, the TITR route contributed over 14,300 TEUs to this total, demonstrating a twofold growth in volume.
