Kyrgyzstan 's energy potential is tapped only by several percents, the republic's Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev said at the meeting with the chief executive officer of China's leading dam builder Sinohydro Corporation, Zeng Xingliang, on Wednesday, Itar-Tass reported.

"We pin great hopes on the development of the energy sector in our country," he said. "And we would be glad to cooperate with such company as Sinohydro."

The Kyrgyz prime minister invited China to take part in the construction of a hydropower plant in the Kokomeren river valley. According to Sinohydro's experts, the project is estimated at around 720 million dollars. "We are also ready to consider your proposals for the construction of not only large, but also medium and small hydropower plants in our country," Atambayev said.

Zeng Xingliang said in turn the company's specialists are making a feasibility study on the construction of a hydropower plant in the Kokomerene river valley.

"If all necessary agreements are reached, we will be able to build the plant for four years," he said.

Atambayev arrived in Dalian to take part in the international economic forum.
