BAKU, Azerbaijan. March 9. The water volume in Kyrgyzstan’s Toktogul Dam has amounted to 7.9 billion cubic meters as of March 9, which is the same level as on March 9, 2022, Trend reports with reference to the Electric Stations Company of Kyrgyzstan.

The daily water inflow in the dam amounted to 162 cubic meters per second on March 9, decreasing from 165 cubic meters on March 8.

The daily discharge of water declined to 207 cubic meters per second on March 9, from 232 cubic meters on March 8.

In January 2023, following the rolling blackouts of the electricity, the National Energy Holding of Kyrgyzstan stated that a further increase in electricity consumption might lead to water drawdown in the Toktogul dam to a dead level. Reportedly, the work at the hydroelectric power station stops when the volume of water drops to 5.4 or 5.5 billion cubic meters.

Toktogul Dam, with a volume of 19.5 billion cubic meters, provides water supply to the Toktogul hydropower plant (HPP).

Toktogul HPP is an irrigation and energy hydroelectric complex in the Naryn River in the southwest of the country. The HPP along with Kurpasai HPP form the Cascade of Toktogul HPPs.

The capacity of Toktogul HPP amounts to 1,200 megawatts, and the capacity of Kurpasai HPP -to 800 megawatts.
