Kyrgyzstan increases import of natural gas in 1M2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 31. Kyrgyzstan imported 72.2 million cubic meters of natural gas in January 2023, which is a 33 percent increase year-on-year (54 million cubic meter in January 2022), Trend reports with reference to the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.

The value of the imports totaled $10.8 million, increasing by 33 percent compared to January 2022 ($8.1 million).

According to the committee, two countries exported natural gas to Kyrgyzstan in the first month of this year – Russia and Uzbekistan.

The volume of Kyrgyz import of natural gas from Russia in January 2023 increased by 36 percent year-on-year – from 47.4 million cubic meters up to 64.6 million cubic meters.

The Kyrgyzstan’s import of natural gas from Uzbekistan amounted to 7.6 million cubic meters in the corresponding period, which is an increase of 17 percent year-on-year (6.5 million cubic meters in January 2022).

Notably, Kyrgyzstan imported 415 million cubic meters of natural gas for $62.2 million in 2022. Of them, 371 million cubic meters of natural gas for $55 million was imported from Russia, and 43 million cubic meters for $6.5 million from Uzbekistan.

Kyrgyzstan's trade turnover amounted to $834.7 million in January 2023, which is an increase of nearly 20 percent year-on-year ($692.5 million in January 2022).

The exports from Kyrgyzstan totaled $125.5 million, which 11 percent more than $111 million in January 2022. The imports to Kyrgyzstan reached $709 million, which is an increase of 22 percent compared to $581 million in January 2022.
