BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Kyrgyzstan imported 19,052 tons of wheat in January 2023, which is 16 percent less than in the same period of 2022 (22,649 tons), Trend reports via the State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan.

The value of the imports exceeded $3.9 million, decreasing by 24.7 percent year-on-year ($5.2 million in January 2022).

During the period under review, Kyrgyzstan imported wheat from Russia and Kazakhstan.

The imports of wheat from Russia in January 2023 amounted to 18,236 tons, which is 12.5 percent less than in the same month of 2022 (20,835 tons).

The value of the imports reached $3.7 million, decreasing by 22 percent compared to $4.8 million in January last year.

The imports of wheat from Kazakhstan made up 816 tons, which is 55 percent less than 1,814 tons of wheat in January 2022.

Meanwhile, Russia and Kazakhstan became the main exporters of wheat to Kyrgyzstan in 2022. In total, Kyrgyzstan imported 222,000 tons of wheat worth $57.7 million last year. Of these amounts, some 215,700 tons for $55.8 million was provided by Russia, and the rest (6,272 tons for $1.6 million) by Kazakhstan.

The volume of wheat imports slightly decreased last year, compared to 234,900 tons of wheat for $53 million in 2021. During that period, Kyrgyzstan imported 138,362 tons of wheat for $32 million from Russia and 95,543 tons for $21 million from Kazakhstan.
