Number of e-wallets in Kyrgyzstan increases

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 27. The number of electronic wallets (e-wallets) in Kyrgyzstan reached 6.5 million by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, increasing by near 20 percent compared to 5.4 million in the same period of 2022, Trend reports.

According to the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan, of these, the number of identified e-wallets amounted to 2.7 million, accounting for 42.1 percent of the total number of all electronic wallets.

The volume of money transfer transactions between e-wallets decreased by 8.4 percent by the end of the fourth quarter of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, amounting to 7.4 billion soms ($82.746 million). The number of transfers increased by 65.3 percent, reaching 3.3 million transactions.

As of the end of the fourth quarter of 2023, electronic money issuers included six commercial banks, and there were ten local electronic money settlement systems in operation.

At the same time, the total number of bank payment cards in circulation in Kyrgyzstan exceeded 6.89 million cards as of December 31, 2023. The number rose by 31.6 percent compared to the end of 2022.
