Russian and Tajik Presidents discuss bilateral cooperation

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon in Moscow on Thursday, Avesta.Tj reported.

Within the meeting the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues including in economic, trade, military and military-technical spheres, as well as in ensuring regional security, energy, labor migration, education, science and technology. The Presidents also exchanged views on Afghanistan's problems.

The both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the development of traditional strategic partnership.

Vladimir Putin noted that 21 percent of the total Tajikistan's foreign trade turnover falls on Russia and Russian investments in the Tajik economy hit $1.5 billion.

According to the Russian President, the bilateral cooperation in the educational sphere is also at high level and some 5,000 Tajik nationals study at Russian high schools.

Emomali Rahmon in turn thanked his Russian counterpart for the invitation and expressed confidence that the parties would reach mutual understanding on the cooperation issues in military and military-technical spheres, economy and trade, Russian oil products duty-free supplies to Tajikistan and other issues.

Within the meeting the presidents discussed the implementation of the agreements
reached during Vladimir Putin's official visit to Dushanbe in October 2012.

The Presidents expressed hope that the reached agreements would start to be realized in the near future.
