Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev invited President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to "discuss the whole complex of strategic cooperation" between Moscow and Dushanbe.
The president of Tajikistan assured that the development of relations with Russia is a priority in the country's foreign policy, TASS reported.
Rahmon congratulated Medvedev on his appointment as the Chairman of the Russian Government and said that the trip to Tajikistan is the first foreign visit of the newly appointed head of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation.
"Russia is an important strategic partner for Tajikistan," the president emphasized.
He assured that "the development of relations with Russia is one of the priorities in the foreign policy of the state, Tajikistan will continue to adhere to the course of development of relations with Russia."
Rahmon also proposed to discuss topical issues between the two countries.
Medvedev conveyed greeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Emomali Rahmon. He noted that his first foreign visit to Tajikistan is not accidental. The prime minister proposed to discuss the "entire agenda" of bilateral relations.
Medvedev separately pointed to the changes of recent years in Dushanbe. He hailed the Tajik capital, saying the city is beautiful and comfortable.
Medvedev began his official visit to Tajikistan by laying flowers at the monument of Ismail Samani, the first ruler of the Tajik state. It was established in 1999, the year of the 1100-th anniversary of the Samanid state, and it is a symbol of Tajik statehood.
