BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 1. Tajikistan exported precious metals for $5,000 in January 2023, according to the State Statistical Agency of Tajikistan, Trend reports via Tajik media.
The figure drastically decreased from $22.8 million in January 2022.
According to the specialized agencies, the sale of the precious metals amounted to 30.7 percent of the total exports of the country from January through December 2022. The value of the exports amounted to $717.4 million.
In 2022, according to the statistics, the largest share of gold exports from Tajikistan fell to Switzerland - 9,784 kg.
The value of Tajik gold exports to Switzerland amounted to $572.9 million last year, which is an increase of 7.6 percent compared to 2021 ($532 million).
Tajikistan has rich deposits of gold and is continually expanding the production of this metal. There are 18 gold mining companies operating in the country, and the production of gold is growing every year. One of the largest companies is the Tajik-Chinese "Zarafshon" joint venture, which accounts for 70 percent of total gold production throughout the country.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies of Tajikistan, does not disclose information on gold production.
