DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 18. The total assets of credit and financial institutions of Tajikistan amounted to 33.537 billion somoni ($3.053 billion), as of June 30, 2023, Trend reports.
According to the National Bank of Tajikistan, the figure increased by 33.1 percent, compared to the same period in 2022.
This growth was primarily driven by an increase in the credit portfolio, cash and other cash equivalents, as well as funds held in accounts in the National Bank of Tajikistan.
The overall balance of the credit portfolio of credit and financial institutions during the reporting period reached 16.146 billion somoni ($1.47 billion), which is an increase of 31.1 percent year-on-year.
This increase was mainly attributed to the rise in credits provided to individuals, the commercial sector, and the small and medium-sized business sector.
Meanwhile, 64 credit and financial institutions, including 14 traditional banks, 1 Islamic bank, 1 non-banking credit institution, 19 microcredit deposit institutions, 3 microcredit organizations, and 26 microcredit funds were registered in Tajikistan, as of June 30, 2023.
