DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, September 8. The average prices for potatoes and onions in Tajikistan's markets remained relatively stable as of August 21, 2023, compared to the previous week, Trend reports.
According to the World Food Programme, a kilogram of potatoes cost 6.1 somoni ($0.56) as of August 21, a 1-percent reduction from the week before. Similar to that, the cost of onions remained constant throughout the week at 3.3 somoni ($0.3).
However, Tajikistan saw an increase in prices for carrots and cabbage. The average price for carrots in Tajikistan's retail markets reached 6.4 somoni ($0.58) as of August 21, which is a 7-percent increase compared to the previous week. Additionally, the average price for cabbage was 6.6 somoni ($0.6), representing a 5 percent weekly increase.
WFP Tajikistan, in partnership with the Neksigol Mushovir advisory organization, has been monitoring commodity prices in markets across the country. Price data is collected through a network of field enumerators. For each commodity, multiple traders are interviewed, and average prices are recorded.
