DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 19. Tajikistan's state budget recorded a 27.9 percent year-on-year increase in revenues in the period from January through July 2023, Trend reports.
Data from the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) reveals that the expenses of the budget also rose by 26.6 percent year-on-year.
Tajikistan’s state budget continues to operate with a surplus, amounting to 1.5 billion somoni ($136.4 million) from January through July 2023. In the same period in 2022, the budget surplus stood at 1 billion somoni ($90.969 million).
EDB analysts noted continued trends of significantly increasing funding for agriculture (doubled compared to the same period in 2022) and the transport and communication sectors (up 60 percent year-on-year) throughout the year. Spending on the energy sector also grew by 24 percent year-on-year.
According to the country’s Ministry of Finance, Tajikistan's total state budget for 2022 amounted to approximately 36.4 billion somoni (over $3.5 billion), which was 3.8 percent higher than the revised plan.
Tax revenue growth in the previous year reached 6.7 percent. However, the share of tax revenue in the budget for 2022 decreased to 60 percent, down from 66.7 percent in the previous year.
