EU set to provide funding to Tajikistan for key development areas

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 28. The EU will allocate 91 million euros to Tajikistan for its priority areas within the framework of the EU's indicative program for 2021-2024, Trend reports.

The announcement was made following the 10th meeting of the Committee on Cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU, chaired by the Minister of Economy of Tajikistan, Zavki Zavkizoda, and Luc Devigne, the Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, and OSCE of the European External Action Service.

As per the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, the EU allocated 345 million euros for the development of various sectors of Tajikistan's economy since 2012. By the end of 2022, the country's foreign trade turnover with EU countries increased by 12.5 percent, reaching $490 million.

The current indicative program of the European Union for Tajikistan covers 2021-2027 and aims to promote the development of promising sectors and directions of the economy, as well as provide technical assistance.

The political and economic collaboration between the EU and Tajikistan is shaped by the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and the European Union and Central Asia Strategy. The EU Representation in Tajikistan actively involves itself with civil society, striving to elevate human rights standards within the country.
