DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, December 29. Plans are in place to reconstruct and commission 40 kilometers of roads within the next three years in Tajikistan's Dushanbe, the country's President Emomali Rahmon said while addressing the Supreme Assembly of Tajikistan, Trend reports.

These highways, he claims, will comprise seven overpasses and will cost more than three billion somoni ($273 million). The capital alone saw the building and commissioning of 16 kilometers of roads in 2023, at a cost of 700 million somoni ($63 million).

He highlighted that over the past 7 years, a total of 82 kilometers of roads in the capital have been reconstructed, valued at 2.235 billion somoni ($203 million), sourced from various funding channels.

Rahmon further mentioned that 17 state investment projects valued at over 13 billion somoni ($1.1 billion) are presently underway within Tajikistan's transportation sector.

Despite the hard economic and financial position, the president claims that the administration has mobilized all resources and potential since the country's independence (in 1991) to liberate it from communication isolation and develop it into a transit state.
