Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov has underscored the importance of creating the Caspian Environment Forum at the 66th session of the UN General Assembly on Sept.23.

The most important question, that goes far beyond the regional boundaries - the environment of the Caspian Sea. Here we are also convinced of the need to give specific content to international efforts to preserve unique natural resources of the Caspian Sea," Berdimuhammedov said in his speech, which was published by local media.

"In this regard, we propose to organize the Caspian Environment Forum as a permanent
body to deal with environmental issues in the Caspian basin, as well as to make appropriate proposals and recommendations," he said.

. The Caspian Sea is bordered by five countries, Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan.
