Issues relating to the preparation for the Turkmen upcoming presidential elections on February 12, 2012, were discussed at a meeting of the OSCE delegation in the Majlis (parliament) , the Turkmen government said today.
The delegation from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) headed by Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Department Beata Martin-Rozumilowicz is in Ashgabat.
"The promising areas of cooperation in the context of the large-scale reform processes aimed at strengthening the democratic foundations of the state and society were discussed," a spokesman said.
The delegation familiarised itself with the national electoral law which reflects the basic principles of existing international standards and the work carried out by the Majlis.
It was also reported that Turkmenistan and the OSCE emphasised the further development of constructive partnerships. ODIHR representatives were received at the Turkmen Central Commission for Elections and Referendum.
The CEC stressed that besides 2278 polling stations in the country, another 29 polling stations were opened abroad.
