Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimukhamedov has demanded to take action to increase cotton harvesting, the state information service reported.

The head of the state demanded action to increase cotton harvesting and to complete it timely and without loss.

Cotton harvesting campaign started late in August. 1 million 109 thousand tons of raw product are planned to be collected from 500 thousands hectares.

Around 1 million 100 thousand tons of raw cotton were collected last year. The country traditionally exports raw products to China, Russia, Great Britain, South Korea, Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Singapore, Ukraine and Baltic countries.

Raw products are planted in 5 regions of the country: Akhal, Mariy, Lebap, Dashoghuz and Balkan.
Cotton production (cotton, lint, uluk) is sold through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange. Country's textile industry develops based on internal processing of raw cotton.
