Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates plan to hold the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Cooperation on Nov. 7-8, an official Turkmen source said.

At the meeting the Turkmen side will be represented by Deputy Chairman of Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov.

President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov signed a corresponding decree for the further development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates.

In October Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow received Energy Minister of UAE Mohammed bin Dhaen Al Hamili. At the meeting the UAE energy minister particularly 'confirmed aspiration of leading UAE companies to long term partnership with Turkmenistan and participation in a new promising project in the oil and gas field'.

At this stage, UAE companies are mostly involved in the oil and gas field. Dragon Oil is working within the production and distribution agreement in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. Petrofac has signed a major contract on maintenance services on the development of Galkinish, the largest gas field in the Mari region. In addition, the Mubadala company is currently holding negotiations on prospects of cooperation over the Caspian Sea.

Both countries are cooperating in the fields of investments, town planning and trade. The projects in the field of communication are being developed, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), one of the world's major mobile operators from the UAE with over 100 million telephone subscribers, is particularly considering the local market.
